Sister Margaret Rose Moran, O.P., a teacher and social worker at Encore Community Services in Manhattan for 19 years, died Dec. 24 in Siena Hall in Sparkill. She was 88.
Sister Margaret Rose served at Encore, located at St. Malachy’s parish, 1996-2015. She also served at St. Rita’s Center, the Bronx, 1996-2004; Incarnation Children’s Center, Manhattan, 1994-1996; and Cardinal McCloskey Community Services, White Plains, 1973 and 1990-1994.
She served in Pakistan for 30 years, as an administrator, teacher and formation director in Loretto and Bahawalpur. She also served briefly in Thailand.
Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1949 and professed final vows in 1956. She earned a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University.
Her brother, John, survives her.
A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 13 in Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill. Burial followed in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
