SAINT PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL TO RECEIVE SHEEN RELIC
Saint Patrick’s Cathedral will receive a relic of Blessed Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in New York. Bishop Louis Tylka, Bishop of Peoria, will present the relic to Archbishop Ronald Hicks, Archbishop of New York.
Blessed Archbishop Fulton Sheen was beatified last week in Saint Louis. He was a native of the Diocese of Peoria, the diocese which is leading his cause for canonization. Beatification is the final step before a person is declared a saint.
Archbishop Sheen was a renowned author, preacher, and radio and television personality, whose popular show, “Life is Worth Living” attracted millions of viewers in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He lived for many years in New York when he served as the National Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, and later as an auxiliary bishop of New York.
The Sheen relic will be available for public veneration by the faithful from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Archbishop Hicks will celebrate Mass at 5:00 p.m. in the Cathedral, with Bishop Tylka serving as homilist. The relic will then be transferred to one of the Cathedral’s side chapels, where it will remain for veneration.
The 2:00 p.m. reception of the relic and 5:00 p.m. Mass will be livestreamed at the cathedral website at www.saintpatrickscathedral.org/live
