Retirement Benefits & Data Specialist
Overview/Purpose:
Guided by the mission of the Archdiocese of New York to serve our parishes, schools, ministries, and employees with integrity and compassion, the Retirement Benefits & Data Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the accurate and timely administration of pension benefits. Reporting on-site to the Director of Retirement Plans & Actuary, this position safeguards the accuracy of retiree benefit calculations and provides critical support to employees and employers participating in the Archdiocese’s pension plans. The Specialist contributes directly to the effective administration of the plans by maintaining accurate records, supporting the preparation, calculation, and distribution of retirement benefits, and fostering collaborative relationships with internal departments and external vendors.

Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate the annual census collection process.
- Assist employers with questions related to census data requirements.
- Validate annual census information and follow up with employers and employees to resolve discrepancies or obtain missing data.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and actuaries, providing requested documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Reconcile trust assets, contributions, benefit payments and participant data.
- Maintain and update the employer demographic and contact information database.
- Respond to participant inquiries related to statements and benefit calculations.
- Prepare quarterly employer billing, ensure accuracy, and resolve discrepancies prior to distribution.
- Create standard reports and perform specialized queries for various projects.
- Serve as intermediary for review of QDRO documentation and calculation of benefits.
- Provide general administrative support of all pension plans.
- Research and resolve complex employee data issues related to pension benefits.
- Perform calculations of annual employer contributions for priests’ plan.
- Prepare estimates and retirement packages, as needed.
- Support departmental projects, including mass mailings, internal audits, and other initiatives.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, applied mathematics, accounting, statistics, actuarial science, economics or business.
- Approximately 3-5 years of hands-on defined benefit plan experience required, pension actuarial experience preferred.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret, validate, and analyze complex data.
- Ability to learn and utilize customized retirement management system and develop queries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, especially Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage workload to ensure timely delivery of benefits and information.
- Detail-oriented with consistent accuracy in calculations, documentation, and communication.
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, teamwork, and commitment to high-quality service.
- Excellent telephone communication skills.
Compensation range for this position is: $85,000 - $105,000 annually.
This position is considered exempt and not eligible for overtime.
