Formation and Missionary Discipleship Associate
Overview/Purpose:
The Formation and Missionary Discipleship Associate serves as the lead for the development and coordination of formation initiatives for youth ministers, young adult ministers, and campus ministers throughout the Archdiocese of New York. This role focuses on equipping ministry leaders with sound theological, pastoral, and practical resources rooted in Catholic teaching in order to foster missionary discipleship and effective evangelizing catechesis. This role gives particular attention to the formation and accompaniment of campus ministers and student leaders serving college and university communities within the Archdiocese of New York.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point person for creating, preparing, and coordinating formation content for youth ministers, young adult ministers, and campus ministers across the Archdiocese of New York.
- Develop formation materials grounded in Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) framework, the Directory for Catechesis, and the Handbook on the Catechetical Accompaniment Process produced by the Institute on the Catechism and the USCCB.
- Create and maintain digital formation content for ministry leaders made available through our ArchNYLab learning management system platform.
- Design and prepare presentations, handouts, and resources for deanery-level meetings, trainings, retreats, and minister gatherings.
- Assist with the formation, onboarding, and ongoing support of new youth ministers, young adult ministers, and campus ministers.
- Support the development and strengthening of new and existing youth ministries, young adult ministries and campus ministries across parishes and college / university campuses.
- Collaborate with the Social Media and Communications Associate to develop approved online formation and catechetical content for teenagers, young adults, and college students.
- Provide strategies for evangelizing catechesis that integrate formation, accompaniment, and missionary outreach.
- Regularly review and update formation materials to ensure fidelity to Church teaching and alignment with the vision and approval of the director.
- Serve as the formation lead for campus ministry, developing resources and formation opportunities for campus ministers and student leaders serving colleges and universities within the Archdiocese of New York.
- Design and support semester-based formation initiatives for campus ministers and student leaders focused on evangelization, catechesis, accompaniment, and service within university contexts.
- Provide formation resources and guidance that address the pastoral realities of college campuses, including faith formation of young adults, leadership development, missionary outreach, and integration into parish life.
- Collaborate with the Director, Associate Director, administrative assistant and other office associates to ensure coordinated planning, communication, and execution of initiatives in support of youth ministry, young adult ministry, and the University Apostolate.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field.
- Committed to living and able to articulate the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Strong knowledge of Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Directory for Catechesis, and USCCB catechetical and formation frameworks.
- Experience developing Catholic formation, catechetical, or educational content for ministry leaders.
- Experience in or familiarity with campus ministry, university apostolate, or ministry with college students.
- Understanding of the pastoral, catechetical, and evangelizing needs of young adults in college and university settings.
- Ability to create engaging presentations, written materials, and digital formation resources.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple formation initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and independently as needed.
- Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events as required.
- Ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese at various locations to assist with occasional meetings and events.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Compensation range for this position is: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour.
This position is considered full-time, non-exempt, and eligible for overtime.
