Associate Director

 

Overview/Purpose:

The Associate Director for the Office of Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry & the University Apostolate serves as the principal collaborator and second-in-leadership to the Director. This role provides strategic, managerial, and operational leadership for the office, with particular responsibility for overseeing staff, coordinating major initiatives, and ensuring the effective execution of the office’s mission across youth, young adult, and university apostolate ministries.

Work Location: 488 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022

  

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing Staff:
    • Assist the director with the overall development and strategic direction of the Office of Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry & the University Apostolate.
    • Serve as an extension of the director by helping to assign, prioritize, and monitor staff responsibilities and work outcomes.
    • Provide direct supervision and support to associate-level staff, ensuring clarity of expectations and accountability.
    • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and ongoing formation of office staff.
    • Maintain clear communication within the team and keep the director informed by summarizing information, progress, and concerns from staff.
    • Support the development and implementation of office policies, procedures, and standards to ensure efficient operations.
  • Finances:
    • Assist the director in creating and managing the office budget.
    • Oversee associates and program leaders in tracking expenditures and maintaining financial accountability.
    • Review and analyze financial reports and trends, keeping the director informed.
    • Review and approve expense reports in accordance with Archdiocesan policies.
    • Approve major purchases for program leaders with final approval from the director.
  • Daily Tasks:
    • Oversee preparation of weekly and special Archdiocesan email communications as directed.
    • Ensure timely and professional responses to inquiries received through the website, email, phone calls, and direct messages.
    • Edit and review major correspondence, memos, email communications, and publications prior to distribution.
    • Review monthly reports, submissions, and mailing materials.
    • Accompany the director, as needed, to meetings, events, and Archdiocesan gatherings.
    • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Special Events and Projects:
    • Assist in planning and attending the monthly Young Adult Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, including coordination with clergy and volunteers.
    • Serve as a liaison for interdepartmental relations within the Archdiocese of New York, as directed by the director.
    • Serve as point person for major initiatives and special projects assigned by the director and the Archdiocese, including World Youth Day, Love & Responsibility, and other Archdiocesan efforts.
  • Performance Standards:
    • Represent the Archdiocese of New York in a professional, pastoral, and positive manner.
    • Faithfully implement the vision, directives, and priorities established by the director.
    • Exercise discretion, sound judgment, and leadership in all responsibilities.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious studies, or a related field.
  • Fluent in Spanish, with the ability to support Spanish-speaking clergy, staff, volunteers, and parish communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in youth ministry, young adult ministry, campus ministry, or a related pastoral setting, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Committed to living and able to articulate the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to supervise and manage staff.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Independent worker and strategic thinker capable of both vision and execution.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
  • Marketing, communications, or branding experience preferred.
  • Graphic design skills preferred.
  • Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events as required.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese at various locations to assist with occasional meetings and events.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

 

Compensation range for this position is: $75,000 - $80,000 annually.
This position is considered exempt and not eligible for overtime.
