After extensive consultation, Cardinal Dolan issued the following four decrees, one parish merger, two church relegations, and the rescinding of one parish merger:
- Merger of the Parishes of Saint Malachy and Sacred Heart of Jesus, Manhattan (effective immediately)
- Relegation of Saint Augustine Church, in the Parish of Saint John - Saint Augustine - Saint Francis de Sales, Ulster (effective immediately)
- Relegation of Assumption Church, in the Parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel – Saint Peter - Saint Paul and Assumption, Staten Island (effective immediately)
- Rescinding the Merger of the Parishes of Basilica of Saint Patrick Old Cathedral and Most Precious Blood, Manhattan (effective immediately)
The decrees were made public to all the faithful on January 1, 2024, through their publication on the archdiocesan website. The announcement on the diocesan website was the official notification for canonical purposes.
