My dear family of the Archdiocese of New York
Today, I arrived in the city of St. Peter and Paul for the month-long Synod.
While I love Rome, I don’t especially care for meetings, especially those that last six days a week, eight hours a day!
However, I am honored that my brother bishops elected me, along with four other American bishops, and grateful to Pope Francis for confirming my appointment.
Especially do I trust the wisdom of Pope Francis, and, especially the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in this endeavor. I’ll keep you posted.
I’m not a rookie, as I’ve been to four previous Synods, and even had the duty of serving on the “Council for the Synod” for three years under Pope Benedict and Pope Francis.
So, here we go! October in Rome is beautiful . . . if I get to see any sun outdoors.
You know the Latin term, Oremus pro invicem? “Let’s pray for each other!”
