Academic and Apostolic Pursuits
At Neumann you are given academic direction which will prepare you for admission into the major seminary. If you are a college graduate, the amount of time you must spend at Neumann may vary from one to two years. You will study Philosophy (33 credits), Theology (12 credits), Latin (9 credits), and Greek (6 credits). If you are pursuing your college degree while you are in the program at an institution that does not offer such courses, they are available at the Neumann Residence in a program accredited by St. John's University, with resulting credits applicable at the school where you are matriculating.
In order to experience the variety of ministries involved in serving God's people, you will have ample opportunity to undertake various apostolic works: visiting the sick and aged in various institutions; working with retarded or handicapped children; teaching religion to children; serving as lectors and song leaders at parish liturgies, for example. Since it is the task of the priest to be "another Christ," the Neumann Residence wants to provide you with a personal, introductory experience of serving others in many of the ways that priests do each day.
