Superintendent of Schools

Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of New York educate young people in ten southern counties of New York State that begin in New York harbor and end in the foothills of the Catskills. Founded in 1805 in St. Peter's Parish in lower Manhattan, the schools today serve more than 111,500 students from pre-K to twelfth grade and are located in rural, urban and suburban settings.

Strong traditional academic programs grounded in basic skills meet the varied needs of each school population by incorporating technology, advanced math, hands on science, foreign language. Catholic theology and moral values anchor the school programs providing young people with a foundation on which to build their futures. In addition to the course work in Catholic religion and sacramental preparation, the schools provide young people with service opportunities ranging from food collections to service in community programs for the homeless and elderly.

The central offices of The Superintendent of Schools are located in the Terence Cardinal Cooke Catholic Center (1011 First Avenue, New York, New York 10022. 212-371-1000)
