New York Catholic Bible School

The New York Catholic Bible School teaches adults the scriptural foundations of the Catholic faith. The Mass and the sacraments are based on traditions in scripture that begin in the Old Testament and flower in the gospels and the brilliant letters of St. Paul. All Catholics should increase their knowledge of our biblical roots! The Bible School, co-sponsored by the Catechetical Office and the Center for Spiritual Development, is set up in three trimesters of ten classes each per year. It is intended for adults who are willing to make a commitment to complete all course requirements for at least two years. This type of commitment is necessary because the first year is devoted to the Old Testament and the second to the New Testament. Each class and trimester builds on the one before, just as the New Testament is built on and continues from the Old.

No particular educational background is required, however, the Bible School is meant for the serious student. It is especially appropriate to lectors, catechists, school teachers, ministers and leaders in the church community. The four-year course of study examines every book of the Bible. It provides excellent preparation for leaders in parish Bible study throughout the Archdiocese.
